Many times, we heard preachers say illustrations about Faith like this. Let’s suppose, a man wants to sit on a chair. Before he sits on it, he physically, through his eyes and understandings, analyze chair directly or indirectly. Then comes actual sitting. If no trust on chair, he won’t sit on it. That’s the faith.
This illustration won’t fully justify the Faith that bible talks about. Let’s look at some scriptures from Bible.
2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Romans 1:17 “The righteous shall live by Faith”
2 Cor 5:7 clearly writes the difference about biblical faith (Godly Faith) and worldly faith. Faith is opposite to the sight. Do you read it? Roman 1:17 says the righteous one – the one who believes Jesus Christ is the Lord, shall live by Faith. That means, Christians should not live by what they see in their surroundings, but by faith.
In another world, as God is Spirit, who is invisible, and none has seen him yet except Jesus who came from Heaven. We can’t see him either. If we can’t see him from our sights, it’s clear that we have to be in another realm, Spirit realm to see him, and like worldly faith looks at Chair and its condition, we rely on the God and his sent one.
Let me put this in other way. Faith is helpless dependency towards God.
John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
A branch cannot bear fruit unless it remains in vine true, which here is Christ himself. It’s total trust on the tree, tree can hold the branch, tree can supply sap, and branch takes that to bear fruits. That is the only principle of Faith. A tree remains happy or valued only when it produces fruits through its branches, no other way around. That is why Jesus said every tree which is not bearing fruit shall be cut down and thrown to fire. Hebrews 11:6 says “It’s impossible to please God without faith”. It’s about bearing fruit otherwise God won’t be valued; it’s not primarily about the gain that most Christians seek after.
Bible says everything is possible for men who believes in God and Christ, it’s only because there is nothing impossible for God. Let them hear who has ears. Amen!
